Aleksandra Szmyd as the Messenger in L’Orfeo at the XII Baroque Opera Festival

On January 21, 2024, the concert version of Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo was performed at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw. This monumental work, considered one of the first operas in history, was presented as part of the XII Baroque Opera Festival.
Among the outstanding cast was Aleksandra Szmyd, who took on the role of the Messenger (Messaggiera). Her powerful interpretation of the dramatic monologue announcing Eurydice’s death was met with enthusiastic applause. The performance also featured Krystian Adam Krzeszowiak as Orpheus and Dorota Szczepańska as Eurydice.
The concert was conducted by Adam Banaszak and performed by the Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense and Vocal Ensemble of the Warsaw Chamber Opera. This extraordinary event showcased the timeless beauty of Monteverdi’s music, leaving the audience deeply moved.
