About Me

EDUCATION

Aleksandra Szmyd is a graduate of the Musik und Kunst Universität der Stadt Wien, where she completed her Master’s degree in opera under Prof. Linda Watson. She also studied at the Music Academy in Kraków under Prof. Ryszard Karczykowski. She graduated summa cum laude from both institutions and additionally completed a postgraduate program at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien under Prof. Claudia Visca.

EXPERIENCE

Aleksandra performed at the Klosterneuburg Festival as Musetta in the opera “La Bohème.” Subsequently, in August of the same year, she took on the role of Gilda in “Rigoletto” during performances at Kurpark Bad Schwalbach and the role of Clorinda in “La Cenerentola” in collaboration with the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. Last summer, she performed the role of Frasquita in “Carmen” at Oper im Steinbruch in St. Margarethen, as well as Pamina in “The Magic Flute” at the Chamber Opera in Warsaw.
Her most recent debut was as Violetta in “La Traviata” at the Sofia Opera House, where the director was the head of the opera, Prof. Plamen Kartalov. She also performed at the Musikverein in Vienna with a program of Italian arias and collaborated with the Bayerische Staatsoper, preparing the role of Marta in the opera “Die Passagierin.”
In July, Aleksandra made her debut at Domplatz Open-Air: Tonkünstler & Friends with a repertoire from “Candide” and “West Side Story” under the direction of maestro Garrett Keast. Then, on July 18 and 19, she performed at the Italienische Sommernacht gala with the Münchner Symphoniker during the Summer Proms at Brunnenhof Residenz under the direction of maestro Andrea Sanguineti and at the 19th Innsbrucker Promenadenkonzerte 2024.
Between December and January, she performed 14 New Year’s concerts with the Tonkünstler Orchestra at the Musikverein in Vienna, Wiener Neustadt, and St. Pölten.
As a laureate of competitive auditions in Bologna and New York, she participated in the iSING Festival in the People’s Republic of China under the honorary patronage of Plácido Domingo. She performed as a soloist at the Suzhou Culture Art Centre with the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Suzhou and at the Shanghai Symphony Hall with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Yu Long. Her performances were broadcast to numerous countries via Medici TV. Additionally, she gave concerts at the Grand Hangzhou Theatre.
She debuted in the title role of Alcina in Händel’s opera “Alcina” at Vienna’s MuTh Theatre, directed by Dmitry Bertman and conducted by maestro Niels Muus. She then played the role of Susanna in “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart in a co-production with the Wiener Philharmoniker in Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, and St. Pölten. She also performed the role of Ilia in “Idomeneo” by Mozart at Vienna’s Akzent Theatre.
In 2019, she debuted in the production of “Candide” at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and played the role of Pamina in “The Magic Flute” at the Warsaw Chamber Opera.
In December 2019, Aleksandra participated in the television show “Bolshaya Opera,” where she performed both opera and crossover music. She was a soloist at the Festival der Jungen Stimmen, Die Internationale Opernerkstatt, presenting various opera scenes. She also participated in the Amadeus Opera Laboratory, where she performed the role of Susanna in “The Marriage of Figaro” at the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre in Moscow, conducted by maestro Dmitry Korchak.
She is a recipient of a grant from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding achievements in classical singing and a laureate of the Kaszt Gutenberg Prize in the category of classical music.

AWARDS

She won 2nd place in the bel canto competition Competizione dell’Opera. In August 2021, she became a laureate and special award winner at the 12th Elena Obraztsova International Opera Competition in St. Petersburg. In December 2021, she also won a prize at the International Competition “City of Pisa – Tribute to Titta Ruffo.”
Aleksandra received the Gold Medal at Musicale de France, the Grand Prix at the Kiepura Fest All-Poland Festival in Sosnowiec, and third place at the Giulio Perotti International Vocal Competition in Germany.
